Shazam

Shazam is a free music recognition application that can identify music based on a short sample being played from any source, for example the radio, television, and so on. It helps people discover information about music, such as the song title, album, artist, and lyrics. The application has become a handy tool not only for entertainment industry professionals but also for music consumers.

Importance of Shazam

Radio stations often use Shazam to gauge interest and trends. This varies depending on the region and radio station, but it can be helpful to use Shazam in conjunction with other streaming platforms in order to promote BTS’ music.

How to Shazam

1. Download the Shazam app on iOS or Android; the app is also available for Apple Watch, Android Wear, and macOS.
2. Open the Shazam app.
3. Go to a music streaming platform of your choice on your phone or computer, and play any BTS song.
4. Go back to the app, and tap the Shazam button in the middle of the screen.
5. After the song has been identified, clear the app’s data in settings.

On iPhone: Tap on “Shazams” under “My Music,” and click “Select” in the top right corner.
- Select all songs you want to delete from your “Shazams” list separately, then click on the garbage can icon in the bottom left corner.
- To delete all songs on your “Shazams” list at once, click on the garbage can icon without pre-selecting any songs and choose “Delete All.”

On Android: Long hold on the Shazam icon on your home screen and tap “App Info,” tap on “Clear Data,” and then “Delete.”
Data must be cleared after every Shazam for the additional Shazams to count. For the process to work continuously, Shazam only when you are not logged in; the Shazam(s) will then be counted after logging in.

6. Repeat from step 3.

NOTE: Clearing data is important because the same song will only be counted once per 24 hours; however, it is effective only on Android devices. A song can be Shazamed only once per day per device if done through an Apple product (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.).
How to Auto Shazam:

iOS DEVICES:
Press and hold the Shazam app.
Tap “Auto Shazam” from the menu.
Once the Auto Shazam is enabled, a red bar with the word “Shazam” appears across the top of the screen.
Once the song currently being played is recognized, an alert will be received.

ALTERNATE METHOD: Auto Shazam can also be enabled by opening the Shazam app, and then long pressing the large button in the center.

ANDROID DEVICES:
Open the Shazam app.
Tap “Library” in the upper left corner of the screen.
Tap the settings icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
Turn on “Auto Shazam.”
The Auto Shazam notification will be seen in the notification bar.
Remember to clear the Shazam app’s data after the song is identified.

ALTERNATE METHOD: Auto Shazam can also be enabled by long pressing the Shazam button on the home screen of the app.
Tips:
Do not plug earphones or headphones into the streaming device (exception is an Android device), and make sure that the song is playing loud and clear.
It is possible to Shazam songs playing through earphones or headphones when using an Android device.
Android devices also have a Pop Up Shazam feature which allows users to Shazam songs playing in third party apps without having to go back to the Shazam app.
To enable this feature,
- Open the Shazam app.
- Tap “Library” in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Tap the settings icon in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Turn on “Pop Up Shazam.”
- Tap the Shazam notification in the device’s notification bar to make the floating Shazam button appear. - The button can be removed simply by dragging it to the bottom of the screen.
- To Shazam a song, just tap the button. Remember to clear the Shazam app’s data after the song is identified.
